Infinimata Press: Projects: Yet Another Left Turn

Wednesday nights, I hop online and hobnob with a circle of fellow creators (including Steven Savage); we get caught up on each others' lives, swap ideas, chew the fat about whatever might be going on. Given that I'm no longer in a neck of the woods where I can just casually hang out with fellow creators, it's a lifeline. Last night, I posited an idea to the group that I'd had kicking around for some time, but which finally took shape in that discussion.

Sometimes it takes the presence of others, and the need to pitch them on the idea, to help the idea take full and formal shape. When that happens, it's the proverbial lightning strike -- everything about the idea coalesces around it immediately. Things that seemed vague or undefined about the idea also snap into place, like iron filings tracing the shape of a magnetic field. Even parts of the story that weren't previously explored suggest immediately how they will integrate with the whole.

I'm always reluctant to share details about any work in progress, if only because the details can change so drastically between conception and release. So far the project has a tentative title of Evolver, and it's shaping up to be something I could complete very quickly -- maybe in no more than a month or two's time. The story is not terribly complex, but it's strong in ways that don't require undue length or complexity.

It's fast looking to be the next big project I tackle if The Fall Of The Hammer doesn't come together in time. I still plan to work on that at some point, of course; it's just a matter of who gets to the head of the line first.

(Evolver also has a lot of Godflesh and Godspeed You! Black Emperor in its soundtrack. And maybe some of Melvins+Lustmørd's Pigs Of The Roman Empire. That should give you a hint as to its attitude and mood.)
