No, I haven't forgotten about Welcome to the Fold -- and neither should you, for that matter, because the wheels have begun turning on that project again! An editor (that is, a copy editor) has the book in hand and will be giving me some detailed edits. After that comes the real fun: the hunt for a publisher or an agent.

My rough gameplan is to see how that plays out over the course of the next year or so. If I can't drum anyone up, or if the people I do drum up show no interest, then I fall back to plan B½: release it myself. One potential spanner in that gear assembly is how to deal with the fact that many agents and publishers expressly forbid simultaneous submissions, which means I'd be dealing with a single FIFO queue, as it were, for processing all this.

That said, while all that's going on, I plan to tear into the next project on the list. Well, one of several nexts; the most likely candidate among them is a story that shouldn't run too long (120K words, tops, I figure), and for which I already have most of the research and story-hacking already set up.

It's not mentally complete, though. Meaning that there are pieces missing I suspect will only reveal themselves once I sit down and start working — the stuff you can only see from ground zero, so to speak — and then that in turn will guide how the 2nd draft develops. I've learned to respect this kind of movement in a story; it's about the story speaking on its own terms, rather than the terms you thought you had in mind for it. My rough-schedule start time is somewhere around June, as May is going to be a busy month for me and I don't plan to get a lot done during that time.

No title yet, though. Somehow that always winds up being the toughest part.
